Brown Trout

The Brown Trout is a major quarry for anglers at Canyon Creek Ranch.  The Big Hole River and its tributaries are collectively classified in the venerable "Blue Ribbon" waters category.

Fishing starts in early June, with the famous "Salmon Fly Hatch" float trips on the Big Hole.  Summer fishing (July & August) involves wade, float and bank fishing techniques.  Some of the finest dry fly opportunity comes in September, when low, clear water levels, fall cooling and colors, and pre-spawn Browns get together nicely.

Brown Trout will average 12-14", with many in the over 20" class caught and released throughout the season.  A fish attentive to both fly and spin fishermen, these will be some of the largest wild river-born trout anglers can encounter in the United States.
