The fly reel is a specialized tool that is unlike other reels used in fishing.  They can be a relatively simple device, with few moving parts, or high-tech mechanical machines.  At the least, they are critical to a sound fly fishing tackle system

There are about 100 reel manufacturers, providing an ever-increasing variety of fly reels.  Although these reels offer fly fishers greater choice, it requires more informed decision-making by the angler.

In this course, you learn the various types of fly reels available, their component parts, and what kind to use in different fly fishing situations.  Learn how to care for fly reels, and how to make best use of their fish-fighting capabilities.

In a "hands on" approach, students at the Outdoor Courses learn about the various reel styles and their purpose.  It also enables them to use those reels that will likely be the most useful for their type of fly fishing.
