Leaders are so important in fly fishing that they may attain the "science" category.  Their purpose is to provide the essential and critical connection between the fly line and the fly.  It is vital to effective fly fishing to know what an appropriate leader is, how to select them and how to keep them performing  properly.

Leaders are as important to the success or failure of our efforts to fool fish into taking our fly as any cog in the whole system.  If not of proper length, diameter, and balance, the fish will let us know their disapproval by ignoring our offerings.

In this course, you will learn what the integral parts of fly leaders are and how to put them to effective use.  How leaders are classified, what these classifications mean to us as fishermen, and what criteria we use to select various leaders.   Learn what a balanced leader is and how to keep them in balance.

We also present an easy-to-use formula for tying your own leaders and/or repairing leaders to keep them balanced.

Learning about leaders at our Outdoor Courses is a "hands on" process.  Students learn by doing, gaining the skills necessary to use and repair those leaders that are critical to the fishing at hand.  The settings also give us a chance to address leaders specific to each student's "home" fishing needs.
