| Minnesota is well-known and respected for its abundant freshwater resources. A state with the moniker, "Land of 10,000 Lakes", obviously has quite a range of "fishing holes" from which to select. It also harbors a broad mix of fish that contributes to its popularity as a destination for a variety of knowledgeable anglers from all over the nation. | ||||||||

This same reputation and its legion of believers has led many to the conclusion that fly fishing is not really "suited" to Minnesota; that due to historical and current fishing practices, fishing with "lures" is the order of the day. A common perception prevails that tackling the state's Largemouth, Smallmouth & Rock Bass, Crappie, Northern, Walleye, Musky, Perch, Carp, Buffalo or stream trout, is not for fly fishers . . . Well, rubbish! Helping overcome this misconception is one of the reasons why The School of FlyFishing holds its courses here. Any fish that swims in Minnesota waters that are popular with "conventional" anglers can be just as readily caught by the capable fly fisher. These Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced courses emphasize the techniques used for the variety of freshwater fly fishing opportunities available in the state and the Midwest. Many of the sportfish in the state are ideal species with which to get started on the lifetime journey of fly fishing. |
