Learn How To Fly Fish

"FlyFishing The Black Hills" of South Dakota
A Fly Fishing Education Vacation

Skill:

"Sure liked Dana's passion. He absolutely loves flyfishing and people. His passion takes some of the more dry subjects and makes them interesting. I was very impressed with the time commitment Dana made, this is not an 8-5 job for him.
The personal attention was super."

FlyFishing Courses presenting the "Learn How To Fly Fish" program are held in the Black Hills of South Dakota during the summer months.  Held in beautiful Spearfish Canyon of the northern hills, the area supports a diversity of trout streams, creeks and ponds and a magnificent scenic backdrop for school attendees.

Accommodations are available for students in Lead, Deadwood or the surrounding area in the historic northern Hills.  Within 30 minutes drive are some of the very fine Brown, Rainbow and Brook Trout angling opportunities of the midwest.  Streams are very "angler-friendly".  They are classic, coldwater, mostly dry-fly waters, that are easily wadeable by the single fly fisher, and are refreshingly uncrowded.  We enjoy access under special use permit with the Black Hills National Forest.

Combined with a "world class" array of complimentary activities and points of interest (notably among them the Mount Rushmore National Monument), this location bundles together opportunities that will meet all family needs.  Regular sessions are 2 or 3 days, with exposure to both stream and pond fly fishing.  Many participants extend their stays to allow further time to enjoy this beautiful, resource-rich area.

These courses are arranged for a maximum of 6 Beginner/Intermediate students.  Non-registered family members are welcomed.  Courses headquarter in Spearfish Canyon at Spearfish Canyon Lodge at Savoy.  A variety of indoor and outdoor "classrooms" make use of the many streams, creeks and small ponds in the immediate area.  Your instructors are Dana Cole, founder of The School of FlyFishing & his daughter, Katie Cole.

There are at a variety of resort-type lodging accommodations, with varying price structures, available in the immediate area.  Contact us about lodging options most suitable to your needs.  Abundant restaurant options are available nearby in the Savoy/Deadwood/Lead/Spearfish area.

For course dates and pricing details see "Courses".  To request a brochure, go to Information.  To enroll in the course, go to Registration.  To learn about some recent graduates, go to School Graduates.  For more details on subject matter, see "Curriculum".  For post-graduate options in the Black Hills, see Graduate Courses.  For additional photos, click here.  For personalized guiding arrangements during your stay in Spearfish Canyon, please contact us.
