Each type of saltwater fish is different, so you can expect their preferred water temperatures to vary. As a general rule, most fish will become more active at the warmer end of their preferred temperatures.
Above all, knowing the water temperatures at your favorite fishing spot can highly determine your fishing success. You’ll also want to check the best fishing times before venturing out on your big fishing trip.
Saltwater Fish Like Warm Water
In general, saltwater fish prefer warmer water than freshwater fish. The average water temperature range for saltwater fish is 64F to 79F.
However, there are a few exceptions like Ocean Perch that are comfortable in nearly freezing temperatures. For several species, many of the following are favorites of fly fishermen.
